water meters have a register like the odometer on a car. The last two
digits are the hundredths measure and the four to five digits in front
of those are the actual reads used to measure the usage.
If you have dials on the meter, start on the right with the 1,000 cubic-foot-value dial. Then read the 10,000 and 100,000 cubic-foot-value dial.
Dials with the maximum of 1, 10, and 100 are used for testing only. Please disregard for your reading.
