- Water Services
The Water Services division is the older of the 2 utility services, beginning as the Azusa Land & Water Development Company in 1883. In 1993, the City of Azusa acquired the Azusa Valley Water Company increasing the service territory beyond the city limits to include the portions of Covina, Glendora, Irwindale, West Covina and portions of LA County unincorporated area.
As the largest municipally-owned water utility in the San Gabriel Valley, Azusa serves over 22,000 residents and businesses, consuming approximately 10 billion gallons of water per year.
Water quality is a major issue, and Azusa is fortunate to have pure sources high up in the San Gabriel Mountains.
LANDSCAPE WATERING RETURNS TO THREE DAYS PER WEEK
This year, a series of abnormal atmospheric river storm events in California brought record rainfall and filled depleted reservoirs. As a result, water supplies have improved both locally and the whole State. In its May Utility Board meeting, the Azusa Utility Board approved lifting the two-day per week landscape watering schedule and return to three-day per week watering effective immediately through October.
Although the most recent drought is effectively over and the State has lifted many water restrictions, the reality remains that we live in a region where most years are dry and where drought will return any year, and we need to plan for it and not just react to the current condition. Azusa Light & Water urges all customers to continue to use water wisely and make water conservation a way of life.
