The Water Services division is the older of the 2 utility services, beginning as the Azusa Land & Water Development Company in 1883. In 1993, the City of Azusa acquired the Azusa Valley Water Company increasing the service territory beyond the city limits to include the portions of Covina, Glendora, Irwindale, West Covina and portions of LA County unincorporated area.
As the largest municipally-owned water utility in the San Gabriel Valley, Azusa serves over 22,000 residents and businesses, consuming approximately 10 billion gallons of water per year.
Water quality is a major issue, and Azusa is fortunate to have pure sources high up in the San Gabriel Mountains.
In October 2014, Governor Brown signed AB 1826 into law requiring local jurisdictions to implement an organic recycling program on and after January 1, 2016 to divert organic waste generated by businesses and multifamily complexes with 5 units or more. Read on...
